Accelerated Middle School Math Pathways (Elementary Principals please read)
Beginning Fall 2018, we are revising the RCSD pathway for acceleration for qualifying middle school math. Starting next year there will not be an accelerated 6th-grade course. Qualifying students will enter into the accelerated pathway beginning their 7th-grade year. Thus, this spring your 5th-grade teams will no longer need to assess or recommend students for acceleration in math. Current student in accelerated math will continue in the pathway through 8th grade.

For more information on the revision see: This is the slide deck I will be using in our board meeting next week.

Your fifth-grade parents will be sent a message inviting them to an accelerated math information night on March 5th at Buljan Middle school. This invitation is intended for parents who are interested in the different pathways available to advanced math students as they move from 6th grade through High School.

Here is a document being used by our middle school principals and teachers in support of the rationale for the changes.

Please inform your 5th-grade teachers, and feel free to refer them to Michael if they have any questions.

Please let Michael know if you have any questions, or would like to know more about the details of the change, or the why!
