PARC Balanced Literacy
The 5th and final segment of our Balanced Literacy Series will be Tuesday, March 19th.

This class will cover: the process and demo of a Real Aloud/Think Aloud using reciprocal teaching;  the elements of a Shared Reading and its delivery and  finally; how to steps on the Daily Five so that students can work independently on authentic literacy activities while the teacher engages with 1:1 conferencing or small groups.

This last class is being discounted by $10, so for those not signed up for the entire series, the class will be offered at only $30.  PARC members pay only $20.  As an added bonus, we will be raffling off 2 free PARC memberships which can be used to renew memberships also. PARC members will receive a reduced rate for the CRA State Literacy conference next Oct. 18-19 here in Sacramento at McClellan Conference Center.  So come join us for the Series Finale and help us  Gear-up for the October CRA Conference, Reading in Wonderland!

PBIS Training 2019-2020
Please take a few minutes to fill out this form to the best of your ability at this point in your PBIS planning for next year. PCOE needs an idea of what schools may be interested in their offerings. This is not a 100% commitment on your part, just a way to give our friends up the hill a little information. If you have any questions please let Meghan know.

Love and Logic
We wanted to send out an email regarding the Love and Logic Training starting on April 1st.
Please find the attached flyer for the April/May Love & Logic Training. There is still room, so please make sure flyers are posted at your sites and are shared with staff and families.

As always, if this is an IEP driven service, the Department of Special Education will cover the expense of the class. Case Managers, please contact your Program Specialist if you are considering adding this to an IEP.

If you have a parent who you feel can benefit from the class but is unable to pay, please work with your PTC to assist with the cost. If that is not an option, contact me and we can discuss a scholarship.

How Teachers Are Changing Grading Practices With An Eye on Equity- KQED
This kind of standards-based grading approach is a growing trend in some corners of education. It’s part of a push to make sure kids are actually mastering the information they’re supposed to learn, not just playing a points game. That reasoning is compelling to some teachers who are excited about shifting pedagogy, but Joe Feldman thinks he has an even more compelling reason that schools should start making a shift in how they grade -- equity.
Using the Single Point Rubric for Better Assessment Conversations- Pernille Ripp  Rather than trying to think of all of the ways a student may not be at grade-level, I can focus on what would place them there assessment-wise and then reflect on when they are not. This has allowed me to leave more meaningful, personalized feedback, while also really breaking down what at grade-level thinking contains.
