Professional Development Plan- Week of 8/3/20
We are excited to spend a week together learning and preparing for the new school year in our Distance Learning Model.

Here you will find the professional development plan for the week of 8/3. We will be adding links to this document throughout the week. This is the one place to go to get all links from Ed Services. Your site principal will be emailing out links for Meet or Zoom.

Educational Support Services Professional Development Schedule

For more information about the professional development plans for ESS staff during the week of August 3-7, please view this SCHEDULE

Video from Principals for Monday

Once you have your welcome back video created, please upload to Drive and share with Laura. Laura will then upload it to the District Youtube page and send you the Youtube link. We are hoping we do not have to continue doing this process but please do it for this first video. If you have any questions please ask Laura.

Managing Subtitles

Here are the links on how to manage subtitles if you would like to include that in the email that goes with your principal message.

Manage Subtitle Settings on Youtube

Administra la configuración de subtítulos en Youtube

Zoom
The District will be purchasing Zoom Premium for all certificated staff.  The premium account will start on Monday.  When logged in your account should say Licensed instead of Basic.

This will be available to all staff starting Monday.

This will allow teachers to easily record lessons and the lessons be saved on Zoom's Cloud storage.  On Tuesday of next week, there will be a module teaching our teachers best practices around using Zoom and recording.

A good extension to add for Zoom is the Zoom scheduler, which allows you to easily schedule Zoom meetings right from your calendar.

RCSD Parent Technology Support - Google Form
This year if parents need additional tech support they can submit a form and someone from the RCSD Tech Team will get back to them.  We will be emailing this out to parents next week but please feel free to share with your families as well.

Student Passwords
We will be resetting student password for all students.  We will email all parents once this update has occurred.  As of now we are looking at sending the letter on 8/5.  Below will be the student passwords:

Preschool = p
Transitional Kindergarten = t
Kindergarten = k (used to be 0 but too much confusion with the letter O)
1st = 1
2nd = 2
3rd - 8th = MM/DD/YY, will be prompted to change the password upon initial login. Password Criteria: 8-characters in length, and contain both numbers and letters.

Students will either need a new Clever badge to log on, or they can use their Username and Password that will be shared with them on 8/5.  Please work with your staff on your plan for printing Clever badges.

Otus Email to Families
This message will go out to families on Tuesday afternoon letting them know their child's unique Otus ID.  Once that email goes out, parents will have access to their child's schedule or teacher.  We recommend secretaries and admin get familiar with how families create an account in case they get questions.  You can click on the Family Account Creation guide to become familiar if parents have questions.

Please see additional helpful resources:

Otus Training
Brandon will be sending updated slides soon.  One note, on Wednesday Elementary Music and Elementary PE teachers will be breaking off into their own group when it is Otus training.  They have specific items they will be working on during that time.

Examples of Letters for Chromebook Deployment
At Leadership it was asked to share Chromebook deployment letters, please see the letters below:

How to View Mobile Devices Issued to Students
In preparation for the start-of-year, please reference the below video on how to view mobile devices issued to students in PowerSchool and message those families from Swift.

Staff now has the ability to view all mobile devices assigned to a student (i.e. Chromebooks, hotspots, and tablets) from the Technology Loaner student screen in PowerSchool Admin.

Elementary Math Essential Standards

The EMESIT is excited to share the math essential standard resources.  Please watch the attached video and reference the slidedeck for the links within the presentation to support your staff as we move into the 20-21 school year.

Mystery Science

Are your teachers still interested in using Mystery Science as a supplemental curriculum this year? They can sign up here, by putting their email in the green box, for a free membership.  As of Thursday, July 30th they still had 4,856 free memberships to give away!

K-1 Foundational Skills Reading Assessments will be given virtually this year.

  • We are working on getting all of the Beginning-of-Year Assessments formatted so that teachers will have the ability to administer these tests virtually.

  • A HUGE THANK YOU to Rachael Peck for creating the slide decks for these assessments.

  • All of the digital assessments, support materials, and detailed instructions on how to administer the assessments will be sent to all K-1 teachers and principals as soon as possible.

  • Educational Services will be providing the K-1 teachers with assessment packets for recording (just like in previous years). Principals will be notified when these packets are to be delivered to school sites.

  • The Beginning-of-Year Assessment data will not be entered into Otus. Teachers will receive instructions on how and when to report this data for growth monitoring.

Optional Training for Staff

A reminder that starting this year we will be providing optional trainings for staff every Monday from 3:45pm-4:30pm.  The training will be live but will also be recorded for anyone that can't make it.  We will email out the schedule ahead of time.  The first training starts on 8/17.  Examples include Math teaching practices, small group, Otus, iReady, Forms, Sheets, Benchmark, and more. We will get out more details next week.
