Retention Reminders
If a parent requests retention:
  • Have a parent/teacher conference to hear concerns
  • Initiate the SSP process
  • Hold SAM meeting
  • Principal discusses with coach
  • Final outcome/decision for retention is put in writing and a copy is placed in the child’s cum folder - RCSD sample letter (retaining) RCSD sample letter (not retaining) -work with your coach when sending
If a staff member has ongoing concerns about student, the teacher would initiate the SSP process and discuss retention questions with the principal.

If the student has an IEP, the IEP team should meet to discuss the parent’s request for retention.

Elementary principals, please talk to your entire staff about the process and that they need to talk to you about any concerns in regards to retention, not the parent.
