Independent Study Updates
A few changes have been made to Independent Study with updated legislation. In RCSD, our policy for the 2024-2025 school year is that we may offer Independent Study for extended absences from 3-15 days. Please note, the maximum number of days has increased to 15 and it continues to be cumulative for the school year.

STOPit! Reminder
To use in an upcoming family communication:
As a reminder, RCSD proudly offers STOPit, an anonymous reporting tool available at all 21 of our school sites. This platform empowers students and families to safely and anonymously report concerns to school officials, helping us maintain a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
While STOPit is a valuable tool for reporting serious concerns such as discrimination, vandalism, threats, or self-harm, it should not be used to report minor incidents or inappropriate activities that are best addressed by local law enforcement. For example, youth riding scooters in the neighborhood without helmets or similar behaviors should be reported directly to the local police department, as these are not school-related safety issues.
We ask that students and families use STOPit responsibly and for the intended purposes. Thank you for working with us to keep our community safe. Your partnership is essential in creating a positive and safe environment for all.
Handle with Care
Placer County is currently deciding whether or not to continue the use of Handle with Care with districts. As soon as communication has been shared with me, I will update you on whether or not we will be using Handle with Care. Thank you to everyone who has already shared your Handle with Care contact information with me if we continue to have this resource.

Goals, Data, and Funding Sheet (Non Title I Sites)
As you work on your planning sheet, please reach out if you have any questions. As a reminder, it should be reviewed with SSC by the end of October. Before then it needs to be brought to your coach for review and then to me. Your total amount of LCFF should be reflected in the spending, but don’t spend what you don’t have yet. LCFF is specifically to support subgroups in order to increase services and achievement. Your strategies are your actions to increase achievement and close the achievement gap.

Interpreters for Conference Week - Elementary Only
Today, site clerical received an email regarding Spanish and Russian interpreters for conference week. Please work with your clerical staff and teachers to determine how many Spanish and Russian interpreters are needed. Keep in mind the points covered in August at Leadership:
Some families may speak another language but do not need an interpreter as they will be bringing someone with them or are comfortable speaking on their own.
Not all of our students who are English learners have parents/guardians who need an interpreter.
This step is the beginning of a large puzzle that needs to be put together with interpreters. Once the blocks for Spanish and Russian are created, sites will have the opportunity to request other languages via a special Google form just for conference week. Please reach out if you have any questions.

Workarounds for Sharing External Google Sites with Students
Following a recent Google update, students could receive files from outside our domain, previously restricted to approved domains. After discovering external content, including proxy lists, in student drives, we restricted student file sharing to only within RCSD. This restriction has unintentionally affected students' access to Google Sites created outside our domain. While staff can still access these external sites, students cannot. Google Support has confirmed that students can only view external Google Sites if we enable students to receive files from outside RCSD.
To address this issue, we recommend any of the workarounds shared below to enable staff to share external Google sites with students:
Zoom announced it will be enforcing its minimum version requirements per its Software Lifecycle Policy starting November 2, 2024. To ensure uninterrupted access, staff are required to update to the latest version of the Zoom client before this date.

Following a recent Google update, students could receive files from outside our domain, previously restricted to approved domains. Google Support has confirmed that students can only view external Google Sites if we enable students to receive files from outside RCSD.
To address this issue, we recommend any of the workarounds shared below to enable staff to share external Google sites with students:
- Present During Instruction: Show the Google Site to students during instructional time from your staff account, utilizing the presentation technology available in your room.
- Embed External Content: Teachers can embed specific pages or content from external Google Sites into an RCSD-hosted Google Site. This allows students to view the material without leaving the RCSD domain. Direct access to the external site will still be blocked.
- Copy and Transfer Ownership: If the external site is interactive and challenging to copy, staff can request a copy from the site's creator. Once copied, the creator can share or transfer ownership of the copied site to an RCSD staff member, who can vet and share the site within the RCSD domain, ensuring students can access the content.
