On Monday, December 8th at 4 p.m., RCSD will be sending the message below to all families and staff:
Subject: Update on School Safety Drill Notifications and Family Opt-Out Option
Dear RCSD Families,
The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. Changes to state law require schools to offer families the option to excuse their child from participating in safety drills such as lockdown drills. This legislation was prompted by reports that some schools across the state have conducted highly realistic or simulated drills that caused unnecessary anxiety for students.
We want to assure you that RCSD does not conduct any drills that simulate real-life incidents or active shooter scenarios. Our practices are intentionally calm, age-appropriate, and designed to be instructional rather than fear-inducing. Students and staff rehearse safety procedures such as “Lockdown,” “Secure,” “Hold,” and “Evacuate” to build muscle memory and ensure everyone knows what these commands mean in the event of an actual emergency.
In alignment with the law, you will begin to see updates in our school site drill notifications, including information about how to opt your child out if you choose. While the opt-out option is now required, we strongly encourage all students to participate so they are familiar with our procedures and prepared should an emergency situation ever occur.

CBS Reporter Offering to Read to 2nd Graders
Local CBS reporter Conor McGill is offering to read to 2nd grade classes on Mondays. This is his day off and in previous communities had donated his time to read to 2nd grade classes on his day off. Both his parents are educators and he is hoping to start a local reading contest in the area in the near future as well. This would not be connected to his work at CBS at this time and no cameras would be on site.
If you are interested in having Conor come to your site to read to a 2nd grade class or two, please contact Jessica Hull with teacher name(s) and time(s). Thank you.
BTAM Training
RJUHSD is offering Level 1 and 2 training in January. This training is optional but wanted to share in case people want to attend.

All DELAC representatives, who were entered on the DELAC Site Representative Form, have been invited to our December DELAC meeting. It is not too late to add a representative to the team! Student Email Permissions
Technology ServicesDue to recent instances of students sending mass emails, we have limited the number of recipients per message to 36. This should still support class projects and peer-to-peer collaboration. This restriction applies only to student-to-student email and doesn't limit staff.
