SUN Bucks Cards - What to Do When They Arrive at Your Site
We are continuing to receive SUN Bucks EBT cards here at the District Office and will be sending them to school sites for family pick-up.

We are continuing to receive SUN Bucks EBT cards here at the District Office and will be sending them to school sites for family pick-up.
What you need to know:
- These SUN Bucks cards are food benefit cards issued by the California Department of Social Services on behalf of eligible students. They provide $120 per eligible child to help families purchase food during the summer when school meals are not available.
- Cards are mailed to the mailing address on file, but sometimes cards are returned to the district if the address is wrong or undeliverable, or if a new student registers in the district.
- Each card belongs to one child and will be labeled with that student’s name.
- Store the card safely in the office with the student’s name attached.
- Contact the parent/guardian by phone to let them know the card is here.
- Use the phone script below to help explain what the SUN Bucks card is and how it works.

Clerical: “Hi, this is [Your Name] calling from [School Name]. I’m calling about a card that came to the school for your child, [Student Name]. I’m calling to let you know that your child’s SUN Bucks card has arrived here at the office and is ready for pick-up.
If the parent asks what SUN Bucks is:
“SUN Bucks is a food benefit from the California Department of Social Services. It gives eligible families $120 per child on an EBT card to help buy groceries during the summer when school meals aren’t available. It works just like a CalFresh/EBT card. You can use it at grocery stores and farmers markets that accept EBT.”
If the parent asks when their child qualified:
“Your child qualified for this benefit based on free/reduced-price meal eligibility or other income-based programs. Cards are mailed out over the summer, and in some cases come back to us if the address wasn’t correct.”
Next steps:
“Please come by the office to pick it up at your earliest convenience. If you have questions about how to use the card, you can call the SUN Bucks Helpline at (877) 328-9677. To check your benefit balance and claim status, visit the California EBT cardholder website.”
Form 700 - New Platform
In California school districts, school board members, the Superintendent, and "designated employees/officials" who make or influence governmental decisions need to file Form 700, with specific requirements determined by the district's conflict of interest code. If you are required to file a Form 700 each year, you will notice the platform Placer County is using has changed. Please note the new platform and ensure you file within the timeline.

Middle Schools it is your responsibility to send out a message by 1/23/26, here is a sample message you can use.

Site safety checks will begin this year and the Site Safety Check document will be used as an opportunity to give feedback to the site admin team. Please reach out if you have any questions.

LCAP Parent Advisory Group
In February, we will begin our LCAP Parent Advisory meetings and are seeking parents and guardians to serve on this year’s committee. We have invited last year’s representatives to return if they are still within RCSD, and we are awaiting their responses.
If you know parents who are active in DELAC or SSC and collaborate effectively on school issues, budgets, and ideas, please consider nominating them. We aim for representation across grade levels, schools, and diverse backgrounds.

Second Step Check In
We are at the halfway point of the year which means all students should have been taught around half of the Second Step lessons this year. Because of the breaks in November and December, lesson completion reports didn’t change much from December 1st to January 5th, so I did not send Second Step Lesson Reports to you on January 5th. If you would like an update on your site’s Second Step progress now, please email Lauren Ellison. Normal monthly reports will be sent out the first week of February.
If you’re looking for site professional development focused on SEL, this Second Step Midyear Check In could be useful. This is not required, just an option if you’re wanting to strengthen your SEL implementation as a site.
