Coming in August 2026: Transitioning from Clever to ClassLink
As part of our ongoing efforts to modernize and simplify access to digital learning resources, RCSD will transition from Clever to ClassLink for staff and student application access beginning with the 2026/27 school year.
The transition is part of a broader effort to modernize the district’s identity and access systems as our current onboarding and access management platform approaches end-of-life support. After evaluating multiple solutions, RCSD selected ClassLink as a unified, education-focused platform that brings together application access, rostering, and account management into a more streamlined and secure experience for students and staff.
ClassLink will provide a more consistent experience for accessing instructional applications and district resources while also strengthening account security and improving operational efficiency districtwide. The platform supports single sign-on (SSO), QuickCard badge login, streamlined rostering, automated account management, and enhanced security tools designed to support both instruction and cybersecurity needs.
What This Means for Staff

• Beginning in August 2026, staff and students will begin using ClassLink instead of Clever to access instructional applications.
• Most applications and rostering processes will continue functioning behind the scenes with minimal disruption.
• Technology Services will provide communication, training resources, and support opportunities to help ensure a smooth transition.

Our goal is to make access to digital tools simpler, more consistent, and more secure for both students and staff while reducing complexity across systems districtwide. Additional updates, timelines, and support resources will be shared throughout the summer.

Important Update: Student Google Drive and Chromebook Updates
As our middle school Chromebook collection begins, we will also begin transitioning district-issued student Chromebooks across all grade levels from local file storage to Google Drive-based storage.
In the coming days, files currently saved on students’ Chromebooks will automatically be moved to their Google Drive accounts. Moving forward, students will no longer be able to save files directly to the device.
This change is intended to better protect student work and ensure continued access to files throughout a student’s RCSD career. By storing files in Google Drive, students can continue accessing their work from any device and are less likely to lose important files if a Chromebook is refreshed, damaged, lost, or stolen.
As part of this update, students will also no longer be able to create Shared Drives within Google Drive. Over time, the district has seen a significant increase in duplicated, non-instructional, and copyright-protected content being stored and shared through student-created Shared Drives, creating challenges with oversight, storage management, and long-term sustainability.
To support the sustainable and appropriate use of district digital resources, we are also evaluating student Google Drive storage capacity limits, which are expected to take effect beginning in August 2026. These changes are intended to better align storage usage with instructional needs, reduce unnecessary storage growth and potential costs, and improve management of shared digital content districtwide.
This update will also help:
Improve consistency in how student files are stored and accessed

• Support easier access to work from any device
• Reduce accidental data loss during device replacements or repairs
• Better align student workflows with RCSD’s cloud-based learning environment

Most students should experience little to no disruption during this change. Technology Services will continue monitoring the transition and provide support as needed.
