Board Workshop on 10-Year Enrollment and Facilities Plans

It is crucial our staff are updated and informed regarding the Board of Education workshop scheduled for this evening focusing on our 10-Year Enrollment and Facilities Plans. The workshop is intended for discussion and information sharing only; no formal decisions will be made.

We're at a new stage in RCSD’s journey to address new growth in some areas of the district while considering declining enrollment in others. This workshop, taking place this evening, is an opportunity for staff and the Board to come together, share insights, and learn about options for our path ahead. It is open to the public and will also be live-streamed.

When: Thursday, November 2, 2023

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: RCSD Board Room, 1050 Main Street

You can access the presentation for this workshop here.

We want to make it clear that this workshop is all about options and information. No action is being taken during this session. We value your perspectives, and your questions are more than welcome. If you have any queries or wish to discuss any aspect of this plan, please don't hesitate to reach out to Executive Director of Communications and Community Engagement, Jessica Hull, at jhull@rcsdk8.org or x50132.

More information will be shared with staff, families and our communities over the coming months, and we are committed to keeping you informed and involved every step of the way.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

Conference Reminders

  • Teachers are only expected to hold one family conference during Conference Week. If parents/guardians are not together and request separate meetings, please work to find a solution to ensure one conference.

  • Teachers are expected to stay on campus for conferences, even if a conference is on Zoom.

  • If you need an interpreter for another language besides Spanish, please work with your clerical to submit a Request for an Interpreter as soon as possible.

Safety Plan

This year’s safety plan template is now uploaded into DTS and ready for you to start updating. Please review the slides for an overview of the information and then review the checklist in order to make sure you complete everything.

Please note that the final due date for approval by your SSC or Safety Team is January 18th, however you need to have it completed and reviewed a couple days prior to the meeting. If you need any support, please reach out.

New this year: The mayor’s office and reps from the unions need to be notified of the meeting where you will be reviewing your plan. Jessica Hull will share this communication for the whole district. Please fill out the information requested (date/time of meeting and type of meeting) on this document by the end of next week. Also, please make sure your parent community is aware of the meeting as well, therefore make sure it is posted in your blog/newsletter.

SPSA

Although the Dashboard data is not going to be available until December, there is data from last year in the first five Student Performance Data sections (all the non Dashboard ones). Please update conclusion statements that reflect the 22-23 data. Think about the following when looking at the data: Was there an increase? Decrease? Did things stay the same?

Elementary Report Card Info

A reminder to give your dates regarding running report cards to your staff so they are prepared.

Below are the resources around how to run report cards for Admin or Clerical. Teachers run their report cards differently. As a reminder it is a site decision on if you print, email or both and up to the site to communicate when they would email out if they do. There were questions at the clerical meeting regarding emailing both Spanish and English report cards. Admin will discuss further at Leadership next week.

Emailing Report Cards

Middle School Report Card Info

This is the same process as previous years. A reminder you must run a report card preview. You will use the same folder you used last year. You can add a folder for the 23/24 school year.

Sites will run report cards at the end of the day on 11/13. We would recommend teachers know that you will be running the report cards that afternoon and therefore the grades need to be completed by noon on that day. Once you have run both the Learning Behavior and Academic Report cards, put the files in your site folder and email Brandon Blom. Brandon will email out the report cards the morning of 11/14. Please make sure you are communicating preview and final timeline with your staff. If you need the folder again or help generating report cards, please let Brandon know.

TECHNOLOGY SERVICES

Reminder: Do Not Use Dry-Erase Markers on Televisions

Technology Services has received questions about using dry-erase markers on the televisions in our classrooms and instructional spaces. It is essential to clarify that dry-erase markers should not be used on televisions. Doing so can result in streaks, stains, and even permanent damage to the television, incurring financial costs and disruptions to the learning environment. If you are currently using dry-erase markers on televisions, please stop this practice immediately. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
