Lucy Calkins Writing Curriculum Pacing Guide and Standards Alignment
Attached you will find the suggested curriculum pacing guide for Roseville City School District.  I highly encourage you to follow this pacing guide for the 2019-2020 school year and we will make adjustments the following year based on needs and feedback.  Also attached is the standards alignment for each lesson, per grade level, of our new curriculum. We will discuss this more during our cycle PD. Enjoy!

Digital Citizenship Lessons
Common Sense Media has updated their lessons and they now include Google slides for each lesson and new videos embedded in the slides.  There are now six per grade level and they are organized so that the same six topics are covered in each grade level.  There are also Google Form Quizzes if you would like to check for understanding.  You can click on the Digital Citizenship tab of the RCSD Digital Literacy site to see the new lessons.  A reminder that the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) requires that all students K-12 receive Internet Safety lessons to learn about appropriate online behavior each year and we use Common Sense Media for our safety lessons.

Grades K-2 will be updated on August 12th (that is when they come out from Common Sense Media).  Please see the video below if you would like more information on how to access the Google slides and Google forms for the lesson.

EduTyping
As part of the Roseville City School District Digital Literacy plan, all students in grades 1-4 were given access this school year to a typing program called EduTyping.  The goal of this program is to help students improve their typing fluency. The program introduces students to typing using a row-by-row method with high frequency and sight words integrated throughout to reinforce reading comprehension. Students can also log in at home using the Student Log In guide.  Please see the below guides for how students log in and how teachers can log in to see progress

Website and App Accessibility
While maintaining or using a teacher site and/or application is not required, if you are currently using a site and/or application to communicate with your students, families, or the community outside the District, as of January 2018 all public entities are required to ensure electronic and information technologies are accessible to individuals with disabilities, by either meeting or exceeding the standards defined by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

An accessible site and/or application is created in a way that ensures equal access for people with disabilities, such as a diverse range of hearing, movement, sight or cognitive abilities. This includes, among other things, making sure styling is in line with best practices, and that content is compatible with assistive devices like screen readers.

We understand how confusing and challenging new laws can make the use of instructional and communication technologies, between digital accessibility (Section 508) and student data privacy (FERPA, COPPA, AB1584, SB-1177, etc.). We thought it would be helpful to remind staff of the infographic created last school year that outlines what staff needs to know to vet third-party sites and applications prior to use.

Please continue to check out the District’s Intranet for an updated list of Compliant, Non-Compliant, and Pending Compliance third-party providers for both digital accessibility and student data privacy.

If you are using or would like to use, a website or application to communicate with families, not on the list below, please let your Principal know so they can reach out to the Director of Technology for digital accessibility compliance.
