Update on ChromeOS Login Issues and Investigation Progress
Technology Services is currently investigating various ChromeOS login issues District-wide, affecting fewer than 1% of Chromebooks. Addressing these login issues remains our top priority, and significant progress has been achieved. If any students encounter problems logging into their Chromebooks, please submit a support request.
Here is a breakdown of the reported ChromeOS issues as of today:
Technology Services is currently investigating various ChromeOS login issues District-wide, affecting fewer than 1% of Chromebooks. Here is a breakdown of the reported ChromeOS issues as of today:
- Adding Additional Student Accounts: When attempting to log into a Chromebook using a Google account, if the account isn't recognized, users are prompted to sign in with a secondary account.
- Cryptohome Mounting Issues: Users are unable to mount Cryptohome, or the Cryptohome itself is corrupted.
- Blank Webpage Presentation: Students are faced with blank webpages upon logging in.
- 8/25/23 ChromeOS Outage: On August 25th, Google experienced a ChromeOS outage resulting in students being unable to log in.
Deployment of Surplus Chromebooks to Schools
With enrollment counts beginning to stabilizes, Technology Services has started the distribution of additional surplus Chromebooks to each school, to support growth, and instances of loss, theft, or damage. All surplus Chromebooks are expected to be delivered to Library Media Specialists no later than Friday, September 8th.
Based on the current District inventory, the allocation of surplus devices is as follows:
Elementary Schools:
- 15 HP G6/G7/G8 Chromebooks (USB-C charger)
- 5 HP G5 Chromebooks (pin charger
- 25 HP G7/G8 Chromebooks for 7th and 8th Grade Use Only
- 15 HP G9 Chromebooks for 6th Grade Use Only
