Sub Shortage-Elementary Only
If your site experiences a sub shortage, please continue to do your best to cover the class with an adult on your campus first (i.e. yourself, TOSA, etc.) You are discouraged from combining classes as much as possible. Please reach out to your coach to help problem solve if needed.

SWIS Student Uploads
In order to update your SWIS rosters for the beginning of the year, you may find it most efficient to do a mass student upload. Todd Gladwill has shared a screencastify with the steps on how to ensure your SWIS is ready to go. Thanks Todd!

Attendance Updates
Attendance documentation is important in order to support students and their families with consistently being at school. Below are a few clarifications as some questions have come in:
  • When putting notes into Powerschool regarding attendance, please be as generic as possible and avoid personal details.
  • Tardies under 30 minutes are still being monitored. While we have no legal obligation to track tardies under 30 minutes we need to be mindful of our practices and ensure that we are communicating with the classrooms so students are not marked absent and then parents are getting the automated call thinking their child is not at school. Additionally, should a family go to SARB, having the additional information can be very helpful. Principals can use their discretion when there is a backup in the office, traffic, rainy weather, etc. to not track tardies for the very beginning of the day in order to ensure students are in class as quickly as possible (i.e. an announcement made to hold tardies for 10 minutes). Some sites are giving a 5 minute grace period each day due to site constraints/needs and teachers know to hold attendance for the time period in order to ensure students are getting to class as quickly as possible.
  • When students leave early, you may choose to either utilize the leave early slips for parents to sign or have a monthly sign-out sheet that maintains the parent/guardian signature, the child’s name, and the time the student was checked out. All leave early slips or sign-out sheets should be housed at the school site with the monthly attendance records.
